Last week I went to a new (ish) yoga studio in Richardson called FitYoga. FitYoga opened the same time I was beginning my private massage practice, so about three years ago. I've been looking to start my yoga practice again and challenge myself with safe and effective yoga. Even though I have experience with yoga, I still need some supervision so choosing a class where the teacher is able to watch and work with with me is pretty important. My wrists are really talking to me lately from all the massages I've been giving and my hips are tight and unhappy no matter how much massage I get- and that is a lot! I always get a massage every other week but nothing has helped relieve the pain so far. From my past experiences with yoga, I knew it was time to venture out and find a studio that would allow me to get strong again-but also had my personal growth and well being in mind. I've been going on and off to my gyms yoga class but wasn't getting much out of it. Jill Murawski, the studio owner and instructor of FitYoga was super attentive and helpful. I really love her style of teaching and desire to encourage, inspire, and help all of the students in the class. We started out in a focused meditation, then in to active poses that seemed to engage every muscle. The flow was really nice. I usually don't enjoy flow classes but I liked the challenge and it wasn't too fast. I was sweating (yay! for exercise) but not in pain. I loved how we focused on really grounding our feet- It makes all the difference when executing balancing poses, well- any pose really. We ended in savasana, or corpse pose and Jill came around with aromatherapy eye pillows so we could really relax in the restorative pose. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I will be trying to go to FitYoga at least once a week. They are located right behind my office in Canyon Creek at Custer and Lookout.
