Limiting beliefs- we all have them. The web defines a limiting belief as 'beliefs that are held either consciously or subconsciously that serve as obstacles to manifesting and attracting what you want'. Here are a few that I hear from time to time when talking with clients, friends, family, or coming out of my own mouth. 1. I don't have the time. Here's what I say to that, MAKE the time. This use to be one of my limiting beliefs (along with #3) and then I realized that I had to start planning my life and using my time better. I'm still working on it! believe me, I am far from perfect. I remember blowing off my teachers in school who tried to teach time management, thinking it was silly but now It really makes me wish I had learned that lesson sooner. If you don't plan the things you want to do and make them a priority, then something else is sure to come up and get you off your track to awesomeness. Prioritize your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health. Doing that will benefit everyone in your life- which brings me to #2. 2. Taking care of myself is selfish. Giving to others from a place in you that is nourished and happy is a more positive experience for both people. Many people give until they feel like there is nothing left and begin to resent giving. If you're not feeling full of love and compassion when you're giving your time or help to others, stop and make sure you're also recharging and "filling your cup." Choose to do something for yourself like reading a good book or going to the gym or a yoga class. 3. It's too expensive. In the long run, paying for something like a monthly massage or healthy food at the grocery will save you money on medical bills. There are even options like going for a walk or sitting down to meditate in the morning before your days starts that can make huge changes in your health and don't cost a dime. I believe preventative care can make a big difference in your quality of life and allow you to really enjoy living. Being ill mentally or physically is expensive and not as rewarding as a dinner made with fresh ingredients or a wonderfully relaxing massage session. 4. I'm just getting old. I hear this a lot and sadly, I hear clients say that their doctors have told them that the aches and pains are just from old age. This may be true but there are things you can do to keep yourself from hurting. Whenever I hear someone tell me it's their age that impedes them from being healthy, I think of Vanda Scaravelli in her book Awakening of the spine. It's so inspiring to see her in her in her 90's posing effortlessly- full backbends and all. Keeping active and having a flexibility routine can keep your body going strong even through the aging process.
